The timeline varies depending on your current experience and the course you choose. Our courses range from 6 weeks (Carpentry Licence (DB-L)) to 13 weeks (Comprehensive Builder Program). After completing the course, you'll submit your application to the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC), formerly the VBA. BPC's assessment and processing time sits on top of the course and varies by application, so the total time to registration depends on them rather than on us.

The minimum depends on the class you're applying for: at least 3 years working under a registered building practitioner, across a minimum of 3 projects, for Domestic Builder (Unlimited). Domestic Builder (Limited) classes such as carpentry each have their own experience requirement — ask and we'll confirm what applies to you. You'll also need technical references from registered builders (same or higher class) and an evidence portfolio demonstrating your work experience. We assess each applicant individually based on their circumstances and help you determine if you're ready.

Application support is included in every program. We help you prepare your portfolio, gather the right evidence, complete your application forms correctly, and ensure everything meets BPC requirements. The Carpentry Licence (DB-L) course covers application guidance and portfolio support; its Application Prep Package add-on adds complete form assistance, reference coordination and submission checking. You'll need your trade certificate and relevant work experience. If you're missing certain qualifications, we can guide you on what's needed and point you in the right direction. However, we focus on BPC exam preparation and application support - we're a specialist BPC preparation program and don't issue certificates. We work with experienced tradies who have the base qualifications but need help getting registered.

BPC now runs a single supervised online exam covering building regulations, standards, and technical knowledge specific to your licence class. It is reference-based — you work with the Building Act, the Regulations, the NCC and the relevant Australian Standards — so it tests how fast you can find and apply the right answer rather than what you have memorised. Our programs include 600+ practice questions and answers (450+ for the carpentry course) to build that speed.
